In today’s world, learning a second language is very important. Everybody wants to learn a second language. But we cannot decide which language to learn. In Turkey, almost everybody has studied English in any time. So I think German can be a good choice to learn. Because, German and English have many similarities mostly in syntax, question types, vocabulary and persons.
Firstly, when we look from the syntax; both have the same sentence structure. The pace of word order is almost same. For example; in English “I’ll take you to the airport.” and in German “Ich bringe Sie zum Flughafen.” Both have the same sentence structure.
Second one is the similarity of question types of these two languages. The common question structuring rules are very similar, like in these example; “Where’s the toilet?- Wo ist die Toilette?”, “How old are you?- Wie alt bist du?
The other similarity between two languages is vocabulary. There are many words that come from the same root. This enables us to learn words more easily. As examples for this analyze these words; morning-Morgen, house-Haus, family-Familie, summer-Sommer, hand-Hand…
Fourthly and lastly, in both German and English, like almost in every language, the action changes its form depending on the person who performs it: “I – am / Ich – bin, You – are/ Du – bist, He or she – is/ Er or Sie – ist”
As we see from all these examples, in learning a second foreign language, German will be very easy for all of us. Now what must we do first is to start studying.
